In this reader are collected texts that mainly appeared during the World War Two or shortly thereafter only the last two being recent texts that we included as an appendix. We think that the historic texts do not only have a historical relevance for understanding the WW2 and/or the positions of anarchists in it. Also there is more to this texts then just destroying some antifascist myths that are repeated over and over again to justify recent or ongoing wars—often-times from several sides involved in the conflict. Because this texts contain some understanding, propositions and ideas that might still be interesting for us today to be reflected on and maybe even might inspire similar updated propositions. This historic collection is by far not conclusive, rather improvised, and gives us just a glimps on a discussion often-times not known at all.
For sure, in the English language—which all the historic texts presented here originally appeared in—there were some text collections from the second world war reprinted—although quiet some time ago—or in circulation, as the valuable Neither East nor West by Marie-Louise Berneri or the Issue 29 of the anarchist quarterly Raven. But—besides the fact that this kind of material is already hard to get in print now—we think that there is much more worthy to be reconsidered and think we have collected some decently insurrectionary texts that might inflame some minds today.
One flaw we see with our small collection is that it clearly stops before the abyss that was opened by the grande finale of WW2 by the dropping of atomic bombs. For sure that opened many new questions and changes the proportions and relations of some. We don’t state this to add our wisdoms, just to add to the terrible problems discussed here the point that with THE bomb was added new and even more terrible ones—besides the developments of the last 80 years.
